Emily Gurley, PI, USA

Emily Gurley is an Associate Scientist in at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and leads multi-disciplinary studies on the transmission and prevention of emerging infections, such as Nipah virus, hepatitis E virus, and arboviruses. Her studies use a One Health approach which incorporates the inextricable link between human and animal health and the environment. She has worked in Bangladesh since 2004 to describe the ecology and epidemiology of Nipah virus, including identifying transmission pathways and drivers of person-to-person transmission, the ecology of the virus, and designing and testing interventions to prevent human infection. She is also the Co-Director for the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) project in Bangladesh, aiming to identify the etiology of child deaths.
